A brief note on comments:

Kim and I have agreed with Gordon that we will not be participating in the comment threads during this exchange. That choice is intentional, and it’s meant to preserve the focus, structure, and integrity of the written dialogue itself.

That said, readers are very encouraged to discuss, critique, question, and debate the arguments raised here in the comments. We look forward to thoughtful engagement from all perspectives.

Once this exchange has concluded, we do intend to revisit the discussion and respond to points that merit further clarification or reply.

I find the use of the word hOmiCiDe to be a form of sensationalism that is meant to incite fear. When people act from place of fear, they are acting from a constricted way of being that does not promote thoughtful consideration of large global narratives. So for me, right away I shut down. I would ask Mr. Friesen to not resort to this type of dialogue which is akin to shoving a kid down in the playground and then forcing him to play with you. The piece/peace that is missing in his narrative is compassion and understanding. I wonder if this narrative adds to those who are already carrying the weight of mental health issues.
